Von Miller's Move to the Rams

Who is Von Miller?

Von Miller is the star of the Denver Broncos, with a decade-long career as a linebacker. He was the number 2 overall pick and was drafted in 2011. He is an 8-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl 50 MVP. He has made 142 tackles and 110.5 sacks during his time with Denver.

Miller has been a loyal Bronco for years, having never moved teams. He is easily their most valuable player and has left a mark on the entire franchise. The Broncos are losing the best player in their team’s history. He will be missed by the entire team and the entire fan base.

Where is he going?

Von Miller was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. In exchange, the Broncos will get the 2nd and 3rd round picks on day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Rams sent linebacker Kenny Young in Miller’s place in Denver. This trade prevented the Rams from having a draft pick for the first 4 rounds in next year’s draft.

Why do the Rams want Von Miller?

Rams’ general manager, Les Snead has taken a methodical approach with the trades, aiming for the success of the team. The Rams have been playing a “win-now” strategy, obtaining strong players to help their chances of making a Super Bowl championship. Other players who have moved to the Rams include Jared Goff and Brandin Cooks. The team is currently competing with the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers for the best record in the NFC. All three teams are the only ones remaining with a 7-1 standing as of this week.

The deadline to trade is Tuesday, November 2nd. Miller was traded with just 24 hours left.

The benefits

After the trade, the Rams have a team lined with star players. With Von Miller in their holster, the Rams’ defense line is solid and also includes Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Donald, and Leonard Floyd. Miller’s move helps the Rams build an invincible defense team and helps their chances of succeeding this year.

This move was sad for the Broncos, but also helpful. The Broncos have struggled to stay standing this year, with standings currently at 4-4. Last year, Miller was out for the season due to an ankle injury and was not able to play. This hurt the Bronco’s performance as well. In order to recover and grow, the team had to give up their star, otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to compensate him. In the agreement of the trade, Denver paid $9 million of Miller’s remaining $9.7 million salary.

What to take away

Watching Von Miller leave the Denver Broncos was a shock to everyone, but will help him become a successful player and possibly win the championship this year. He is very valuable to the Rams and will have the opportunity to thrive with such a well-built team.

Von Miller will make his debut with the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Without Derrick Henry, he’s bound to get comfortable with the Rams pretty quickly.
